skimmer aint skimming

hi there i have a coralife super skimmer(up to 220 gallons) for my 175g tank and i had my tank for 9 months now and never had this problem the skimmer seems to be not skimming/making the bubbles. can some1 please help im fairly new to this hobby and kinda worried thank u

Make sure the air line isnt stopped up with calcium.I had one and had to periodically clean it.

Having some problems posting? JK Sometimes taking off the pump and giving it a good cleaning works for me.

also, the tube is not the part that gets clogged with calcium, its the little nipple the tube hooks to.. you should take the pump apart, clean it wall, and run it in vinegar water for a couple of hours. muratic acid water is better, and then get a cup of hot water and let the air tube suck it from a cup, or take a spot feeding syringe, and squirt hot water down the airline tube.. that will fix your problem.

if the skimmer feed pump is working properly then something is clogging the air path...

Like skwirl said it is probably the nipple that the air hose connect to on the pump. I took a tooth pick to it and then soaked it in hot water. Works like a champ.

and yes it was the nipple where the air tube connects too, the toothpick really did the job. again thank you all that replied to my problems

to permanently fix the problem you need to continuously draw moist air into the venturi. This can easily be accomplished by connecting the end of the venturi air intake tube to the inside of the skimmer cup so it's always sucking damp air.

Gary I have head of that but I thought that the air from the skimmers cup was not good to be recycled like that it is bad for your tank in the long run. I can't remember were I read it, Nano-Reef of here, but I did remember reading it. Not sure how true it is, as I have never tried it. I just take a tooth pick to it every month.

Save your toothpicks and mod your venturi skimmer so it's always drawing moist air from the collection cup.
Trust me- it's safe!

Not only is it safe to do that but this also doubles as a noise muffler of sorts.

I am sucking air from outside for my skimmer, is there anyway to add some moisture to the air before it gets to the clog point in the line?
