Skimmer always overflows after water change.

Does everyone have this. Few things. It is not water level related. As a precaution I just cleansed my mixing can with vinegar. I did not stir up my sand bed. Coral pro mixed for 24 hrs. Again, this always happens.

Yup every time....I just let it go this week and it did go back to the correct level before the cup overflowed??

Doesn't take long, I just turn skimmer down for a few hours. I thought maybe bacteria or something. So I thoroughly cleaned it and all pumps and made sure not to let the change water sit for more that 24hrs.

Do you all use Octo skimmers ?

They seem to go nutz when I do a W.C.

I just unplug the skimmer for a few hrs after the change.

Invest in a nice skimmer and the problem will go away... you might me able to do less W.C. with a better skimmer as well 8)

If my skimmer section in my sump was a little bigger I would be done with my Octo.:headwally:

I have same problem with ABT 840 skimmer. For few minutes or sometimes few hours skimmer is making more foam. To fix this problem I make small water changes twice a week instead of one bigger one. Also after water change I usually clean skimmer so I keep it off for an hour.

My marineland one doesnt do that... although it does like to not work when the power goes out, I always have to pull it out and drop it back in... no idea why. I rarely touch the knob though..

Its the new saltwater, skimmers are not a fan of new saltwater. Not sure what exactly but I read it on here some time ago. I have to adjust mine down all the way for 12hrs after a water change

If you add your water downstream of the skimmer it has to go through the tank and mix with that volume before it gets to the skimmer again. So maybe its more the fact that that I turn the skimmer off and change the socks, clean and siphon that chamber empty??? Its hard to believe 15 gallons of "new" water in 130 gallons of old water can cause that upset. My fresh saltwater is batch mixed in 55 gallon drum then circulated and airated for at least 12hrs before its added. So my "new" water could be from a batch that is 3 weeks old that has been circulated and airated for an hour a day until used. I'm glad its not just my cheap coralife skimmer that does it...

I must just be me but I have owned a few skimmers that have not had this issue.

1. Euro reef (5) No issues
2. ASM (2) No issues
3. Deltec (4) No issues
4.Octo (4) all had same issues.
