I have a 160 gallon DAS tank. The DAS tanks have an overflow box built in and all of the filter equipment is inside the box. (filter spools, skimmer. etc.) but with the tank being about 12 years old the skimmer doesn't work, and the filter spools are hard to find.
Instead of using that stuff I went and bought a FX6 filter and a Reef Octopus BH-2000 for a skimmer. I have the overflow box holding the skimmer and the FX6 intake just inside the tank. So the overflow box does not have water in it anymore that's just where the skimmer sits because there is a built in canopy and its to far from the top of the water to the skimmer sit on the back.
Now my question is... using that skimmer and the FX6 will that be enough filtration for the tank. I just set it up about 3 weeks ago and I have 3 damsels, 1 red coris wrasse, 1 platinum clown, and 1 cleaner shrimp. It will be a fish only tank.
The media I have in the FX6 is the bio-max rings, and Phos clear, and two bags of total clear.
I want to add a few tangs and triggers and maybe angels to the tank. I was wondering if this filter setup will be enough to pull the nasty stuff out of the water or should I just take the tank down and drill the tank and put a sump under it. (I really don't want to do that but if I have to I can)
Thank you guys!
