skimmer and water level

Do all skimmers require constant water level to work without readjusting it?

Im asking because I upgraded to a bigger tank again and I'm deciding whether to get a skimmer or not.
Ill have a decent amount of fish. I wonder if my refugium with chaeto and mangroves, plus a couple of clams will be enough to export the bad stuff.

There are quite a few that are able to deal with varying water levels. The way around it is to have a direct feed into your skimmer. Pipe it in line with water directly from the tank if you can.

A recirculating skimmer is not effected.
are you sure? can somebody else confirm this?

Some people don't use skimmers, but that is not an approach I advocate myself.

The sump with the chaeto and mangroves is not going to do the same thing as the skimmer will. The skimmer removes things no refugium ever can, Dissolved Organic Compounds (DOC). The chaeto will work well for nutrient export, but the mangroves aren't going to help much since you need a whole lot of them and they need to reach a decent level of maturity in order to be worth a darn.
