Skimmer Bubbles!

Well for the past year i've been using a filter sock and zip tying it around the outlet of the my skimmer because of my bubble problem... Here is a video of the skimmer with the filter sock off. am i doing anything wrong? Should I keep using the filter sock or is it bad?

The bubbles can cause tissue damage in some corals. Have you tried to build any kind of bubble diffuser. Im not sure how your setup looks but I used some PVC parts made sort of a durso on my skimmer. It then continues horizontally instead of straight down. Gets rid of most of the bubbles. If these options are not possible with your setup I would continue using the sock.

well like i said, I usually just zip tie a filter sock around the outlet of the skimmer... Im wondering if this is a bad thing or of anyone has any other recommendations.. its just a pain to clean it so often... Should I try to add pvc's to make the outlet ABOVE the water or something?

When I first tried that paricular design it didnt work so great with my setup. I had to play with it a little so that it worked right for me. At one point I had no bubbles at all but it was loud. Being very close to my bedroom I had to play with it some more. I probably tried it 10-12 different ways. I just bought a bunch of PVC and started trying different ideas. Once you get it close you should be able to get rid of most if not all of the bubbles. My skimmer is in my sump so what bubbles do still make it into the water are trapped by my baffles.
