Skimmer Check

Just a reminder for all of us. My skimmer was looking good, but it was high flow and low bubbles in the chamber. It also seemed to be having trouble producing skimmate due to the low bubble count. After cleaning the whole thing and making no headway, I finally found that my venturis had calcium buildup just inside the openings right by the pump. I have been using it for about 5 years and never seen that before. Cleaned it out and tripled the performance. Hopefully this will help some other long term reefers that are having trouble with a good skimmer.

I'm hoping that is what I'll find when I take my reef octopus apart. Keeps loosing air and have to blow into it to start it producing bubbles again.

My GEO Beckett never have this problem:) They can go for years without cleaning:)

I didn't have any calcium build up. It was a swollen magnet. I was able to sand down the plastic case over the magnet till it didn't wobble anymore. Restored pump speed and bubble output. Will give me time to get another impeller.

Congrats, and thanks for the follow up. Strange issues like these are a hard to sort out sometimes.

Proprietary pumps can be a real pain in the Griss.

Glad you got a temporary fix too:)
