Can I just drill a hole in the lower side of my collection cup for a drainage spot to run down to like a gallon jug? if so is a half inch hole and hose good for that type of drainage.
Don't do it. It will go crazy one day and flood your house. Even my euro reef went crazy one day. You need to clean the neck of the thing often anyway if you want optimum performance.

This is why I will not do mine. I have ready to many peoples skimmer going nuts and draining water all over the floor. In my case it would just keep going, because it would kick on my auto top of on and just keep drain the tank. So that scares me a little.
I have thought about drilling my skimmer then putting a float switch on the bucket to were if my skimmer goes nuts and fills the bucket it kills the skimmer.
well the biggest reason I want a drain line is because it goes crazy when i feed silversides or something and ends up draining all over the floor it just comes out of the top of the skimmer, and it's not an in tank becasuse i didn't have room for it so i mounted it to the side of the sump
I did this to mine and ran it to PVC in the basement that goes to the main sewer drain. Last weekend I was sandpapering the coraline off of the front of my tank and unbeknownst to me the skimmer started going crazy because of all the particles in the water that it was skimming. I look down at it and the hose was doing what it was supposed to do, draining all of the overskimming water to the sewer in the basement. I love it when things work the way they are supposed to!
