skimmer cup drain line? fitting?

So for two reasons I want to put a drain line/overflow on my skimmer cup. I want to start in occasion doing skimmer water changes and run a line to a drain and let it go but I also have the occasional skimmer freak out and when that happens I get a lot of splash out of sump with how tall my skimmer is.
Has anyone put their own in and what fittings did you use. I was thinking just a simple barbed elbow but was wondering more about how to seal it into acrylic and what to use to hold it in place.

Thanks in advance

I drilled a hole the size of a the plastic male end into the bottom of the cup. Then connect a large enough hose to the barb on the outside. I made sure that I made it large enough for a flow and not a squeeze of solids and water. I lined mine through the wall to the outside porch. I never touch it... If I want to clear my line i manually freak out the skimmer and then shut it down.

mine is just siliconed in place about 1/2" up the cup. i drain mine into a bucket and empty the bucket whenever needed. i guess I'm asking for a problem but I haven't had one so far.

My skimmer cup came with one already installed in it from the factory. They drilled and tapped the hole and used a 90° elbow (threaded on one end and slip fitting on the other). I just wrapped the threads with pipe tape and have never had an issue with it leaking.

I was not thrilled with the design when I seen it, but I have been using it for 2 years now without an issue (knock on wood).

I would suggest using the aqua c waste container. Or building one like it. I love mine and if the skimmer ever goes crazy, the waste container shuts the skimmer off.

I built a auto waste collector for about 20$ Thats the exact same design as the aqua c collector. I'll find the link and post it
