Skimmer Cup Drain

I have read some threads where people mention installing a drain plug in their skimmer cup so it can drain into a bigger collection bucket. How do you go about doing that and is there anything special that I need to know about drilling acrylic?

well I did mine just a little while back and the results were pretty good.

I went out and bought some angled plumbing pieces that push in and gorilla glued it in place after I drilled the hole.

The big thing with acrylic is to be SLOW and steady don't press to hard let the bit do the work. It will probably start to melt a little thats okay but don't stop at that point and let it harden or it will crack when you start again, and you may want to go spend ten bucks on a bit designed to do acrylic.

The other thing I will tell you is don't use a milk jug for you drain collection! I was and after a week it melted through the bottom and spilled that nasty stuff all over the floor EWWWWW!

Good luck

I am not sure what you mean by pieces that push in. Do you mean pieces like what you would get for your line that goes to your ice maker that you can just stick the tubing in and it stays?

Your skimmate ate through a milk jug :eek1: I never would have thought that would happen, thanks for the tip.
