Skimmer Drain?

Hey all...I would like to drill a hole in the collection cup of my skimmer and add a drain. Does anyone have a suggestion on the best way to do this? Also, anyone know where I can get a fitting to attach to the cup (I am assuming a barbed end fitting would work best with the tubing)?

hey ya, im not really sure where in the sump you would put the drain cup to once it drains from the skimmer??? but you would just do it the same what we drilled the sump. i would probibly do it by hand tho. but you'l need to keep the catch cup in the sumpbecause if the skimmer acts up and you have the drain outside the sump you can potentially drain the sump all over the floor.

Ya...good point...I was thinking I could put like a gallon jug inside a 5 gallon pail behind the tank. I would hope that the skimmer would not go that crazy :) I mean I would rather have it in the sump of course. I wonder if there is a way to hang some sort of container on the side (inside) of the sump (I bet we could figure something out). Where do you get those fittings to attach the tubing?

Lowes...you still have some of that acrylic left right? if you ou can make a small hanging shelf off the side.

Frank,

I thought that I'd be smart and put mine in a 5 gal bucket outside the sump at first also. BAD IDEA. My skimmer went crazy one night and I ended up with a lot of water on my floor. I have concrete only and it wasn't a big deal for me....I know that you do not want to deal with that kind of problem again.....Put the collection container inside of the sump....

Dave

thats what I was thinking...or we could just use a piece of plastic to attach to the container and hang it there (not sure a shelf is needed...)

lol...it really isnt a shelf i was talking about it is more of an L bracket that you can hang over the side of the sump zip tie a cup to.

Longer contact between bubbles and the water is always better IMO Taller the better.

oooooooooooooook then...that is a pretty big skimmer...yeah, I can see how if that went crazy it would fill a 5 gal bucket pretty quick. See mine is about 1/4 the size of that thing. I would probably be ok, but I'll figure a way to put it in the sump.

Dave,

Let me know when you want to sell that skimmer for $70.00.. LOL.

I keep searching ther RC threads, but somehow the deals I see are never that good...
