Skimmer for 6-800 total gallons

Those of you who already have large systems set up, what skimmer are you using and how happy are you with it? I don't want to get something and then not be happy with it.

My total water will be around 500 gallons, but would like to have a skimmer rated for more simply to give me the added waste removal properties.

The display tank will be roughly 240 gallons (80x24x30)

Wow, that does look like it would be a great skimmer. I do not remember the make/models now...but was looking at units that were $500, this one bumps up the cost too more than double that :(

Thats exactly why I asked the question, want too know what all is available...Thanks

This large tank club is going to be quite expensive too enter :)

you wont find anything for $500 for 500 gallons. if you do it will be junk. the sequence skimmer is awesome for the money. I know, I bought one:D

Thanks MrCrab will take a look at that one.

Appreciate the input Yaktop, but high price does not always equal better performance. That unit does look great, it is being considered...

But the Turbofloater 5000 $539. Precisions Bullet 3 at $529 (plus 120 for pump). Precisions bullet xl2 dressed out would still come in under the $1299.

Just trying to become fully educated on the subject. Yes, the $500 in my reply should have read 500-750 which I think was the price range of what I was looking at. Several of those do not include the pump needed to run the unit.

the BM250 is a nice skimmer but IMO, not for a heavy stocked 500.

I hear what your saying on price but also be aware that you 'always' should get a skimmer rated much higher than what the manufacturer says. always.

look at comparable skimmer (same load) of the sequence. much lower price and same performance. Dont settle for less than you really need it will cost you in the long run.

been down this road twice before. .......good luck.

They have other models, that just happened too be the one I linked. They also have a 1000 gal model that sells for the same price range as the new model from sequence...I think it was $1100.

Want best bang for my buck..

The funny thing about the link above where you read 300 gallons that was that sites rating, I saw the same unit on another site rated at 600 gallons.

Who does this math and ratings?

I have a MR3R from my reef creations, it is rated for 600, you can also up a riser on it and upgrade from the blueline 55 to a 70 or 100. Mine is on my 180 aggressive tank.

Thanks.

Found another ASM G6 skimmer for 700. with the pump. Rated at 1200 gallons.

Too bad there is not a site that has every skimmer..you pick a few you want to compare and all the specs are there too see.

I use the OCTOPUS TDNW 300 on my 500gal and have no problems at all... Take a look........

This site stated the Octopus 300 has a rating of 1500 lph and I will be honest and state that I have no clue what that means.

The other thread about the new precision units ...

I finally was able to get an air reading on mine. At 120watts the pump is pulling right at 33lpm, which equates to 1980lph.

For comparison:

Reeflo ORCA 250 - 1980lph / $1299 ($1499 after intro price)
Deltec AP902 - 1600lph / $1869
Deltec AP1003 - 2250lph / $3275
Bubble King 300 - 1999lph / $2699
Bubble King 400 - 2499lph / $3999
H&S - Couldn't find any stated numbers on these.
ER RC750 - 3000lph / $2000
ER RC1000 - 3600lph / $2500

The EuroReef numbers are great, but to give comparison the Reeflo was set up on the exact same system as the RC1000, and basically shut this skimmer down over a period of about a month or so. I still feel like the valve on the venturi is restricting this guy by about 250lph, but I do not yet have a replacement valve as a backup so that I can start chopping on this thing. Having said that, in stock form this thing totally kicks butt, and unless you're one of those guys who wants to tinker and play, there is absolutely no modification needed at all!

So assuming the lph rating is the efficiency of the unit, 1500 for $700. or 1900-2000 lph for $1300.00 and up.

Someone want to explain lph?

awesome........

So does anyone know what the lph stands for? I would venture a guess of litres per hour but in a hobby where most everything is stated in GPH would also guess that to be a wrong assumption.

Did a few searches for lph and lph that would be suggested for aquarium sizes...nothing found.

Yaktop...missed this think you posted it while I was posting another

My tank would be 240, a refuge of 75g so heavily stocked 300g with at least another 200g of just water capacity. I do fully agree about wanting to 'overbuild' in the skimmer part of the system.

LPH is liters per hour, it deals with the air that's going into it. Being as we silly Americans have to have a different unit system for everything it seems, gallons of air seems just silly ;)
