Skimmer for a 90g reef?

I'm looking for a used skimmer that can be used on my 90g reef. Due to space limitations, it would more than likely have to be a hang on or if in sump, under 21" high with a small footprint.

I have found a couple used ones being sold - Remora pro and an MRC MR1. Does anyone have any experience with these, as to recommend which one would be better if I can't find a skimmer locally?

Please let me know if you have one that I could use or if you can chime in regarding the other two.

Thanks!

MRC MR1 will be better with no doubt in my mind. A Remora is a decent skimmer for a small nano (even the pro model) but for a 90 gallon, you'll need a LOT more skimming power than that.

I would consider looking into a short and fat euro-reef, octopus, maybe even the new octopus line of skimmers.

I have used the remora for a small tank and it skims ok. As for the MRC I have a MR2 dual injected unit on my 90 now and it kicks butt LOL. So I vote for the MRC MR1. Drawback is the MRC needs to be in sump or plumbed externally as it cannot be used as a HOB like the remora.

Also of note is the fact that beckett skimmers like pressure pumps, which may be a factor if space is involved.

Like Eric said, you may need to look into a needle wheel like the ones he mentioned.

After looking some more, my new options are as follows: Aqua C ev120 or the octopus hang ons - OCT 300F or OCT BH-100F. They have models without the "F" at the end and Im not sure what it stands for. The EV 120 is used and the octopus skimmers are new. Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

Thanks again all!

I have an Octopus needle wheel 150gl skimmer on my 75gl, with sump its about 90gls. It works awesome! 1 year and going strong. I highly reccomend Octopus skimmers they really draw out alot of sludge. Anyways always shop around for a good price, but thats my suggestion.

Thanks Ryan for your input....I don't believe that either of the octopus skimmers I am looking at are needlewheel. Any other folks have opinions or experiences to share???
