Skimmer for jbj 24 gal

Has anyone ever figure out if the slim skim nano would work? Or any skimmer that works. I have 24gal and trying to figure it out. Don't feel like spending $70 to just try it. I feel like as long as both product has been around, someone should have an answer. It looks like dimensions wise it will fit in the compartment with mods to the rim of the tank(cutting the lip edge off) but the question is the height of it sticking out. The jbj hood splash guard extends over half of the back chambers so height wise the skimmer has to be able to work when put down nearly flushed with the edge of the tank in order for the hood to shut. I'm sure it's possible to cut a hole in the hood to put the skimmer at whatever height u want but then that would break the seal on the splash guard and the water tight "box" that the lights are in.
Attached picture: I could cut the hole out like the drawing but then I would have to move that power supply box but most importantly I don't know how to make it water/salt creep tight again. I could glue some plastic pieces and seal it and stuff but then the splash guard won't touch it right unless someone has already done it and has a diy write up they can share with me. Also, I know this skimmer works on the 28gal size because the back chamber is not covered by the hood. And works with other brands 24gal because their hood has more clearance. Has anyone seen it done for the jbj 24dx specifically?

Tunze 9001 fits perfectly and does a decent job of skimming in this tank. I have it in the middle chamber with an Eheim 1046 in the return chamber. There is no need to trim the splash shield - the skimmer fits perfectly.

Is it possible to fit in chamber 1? I have an upflow ATS in chamber 2. I could move it to Chamber 1 but it would be weird to have the bubbles go against the flow of water, and to have skimmer skim after the algae eats, rather have skimmer skim everything and what's left the algae eats, then what's left after that phos an media takes care of
