I just plummed my new 300 gal. On the drain into the sump I happened to tee off the outlets so that one the end of the outlet is submerged and the other end of the tee is 8 inches above the water line. The pipe is 1.5" and I have two of these outlets. Tank is about 4 feet above the sump. Water flow I'm getting around 1000 gal/hr est into each drain.
When I looked at the sump I was amazed at the huge volume of air being injected. Its very turbulent as well. When I looked at what I had done I realised that I had inadvertantly created a set of venturi's.
This has got me thinking of a skimmer design just based on drain flow. It might not be as efficient and a downdraft but at this volume its also "free".
Anyone designed a skimmer around something similiar ?
