Just a quick question, hopeing someone has experiance with this.
Anyway .. I am using an AquaC Remora simmer, Which works ok, but I think there is quite a bit of room for improvement.
It is being run by an MJ1200 pump .. I was just wondering if the MJ modification kists with the larger empellor would help it skim better .. or would I just be putting a bunch of bubbles in my tank?? Thank you for everyones edvice on this!

That would probably be too much for the skimmer body to handle. i would just leave it be until the skimmer performance starts dwindling.

switch to the mag3 and mount it one inch below the inlet. just make sure you have something under the pump incase for what ever reason it gets sepparated from the skimmer. if not it will shoot the water up and out of the tank.

Not trying to be hater but the Remora is not a good skimmer under any circumstances. If you have one pulling good skimmate then your tank is DIRTY. To answer your question though the MJ kits are designed for flow and will not help your skimmer.

I hate to disagree, because I know the Remora's are spotty from unit to unit. I guess I have been lucky and mine worked well on my 55g frag tank. There wasn't anything dirty about that water ;)

Glad you got a good one. Overall though they have many more unsatisfied customers. I've had the Remora Pro and an Aqua C EV-180 and after having many other skimmers I wouldn't recommend either of them.

Yeah I completely agree with you. I've heard tons of horror stories. I found one used for $50 and decided to take a chance.

The only thing on my skimmer that is not stock, is that the original owner shattered the collection cup, the reglued it back together. We've joked about it on other threads and dubbed it the "smasher mod." :hammer:

I also had an EV-90... The only reason I don't usually recommend AquaC's ia because of the noise the spray injection creates.

I currently use a Marine Solutions MSX-160 and it's probably the best purchase I have ever made.

Thanks for the replys guys ... Mine sure doesn't pull out like TSWIFTY8's does. What pump are you using with yours?
I read a bunch of good reviews on this skimmer, that is why I bought it.
My tank is kind of poor mans reef .. 4 ft 50gal tank .. no sump. just running a closed loop with a Quiet One 3000, and one MJ 400 with a rotating wave maker mod. also running a Magnum canister filter for carbon/Phosban media, the chiller feeds through the magnum also.
Would like to have a sump, but don't trust the overflows not to flood my house, and also, not really any money to do something like that right now. So no money for a better skimmer either.
So was hoping the pump upgrade would improve this Remora that I have now.

i bought the same one you have i read about many people saying its a great skimmer and im sad to say it performs as well as my prizm deluxe :( but you dont have to adjust it every 5 seconds.)

i have micro bubbles in the tank and it pulls out dirty water but its...water...its in no way thick stuff like ive see in pictures of other skimmers.

how long have you had the skimmer running????

Have had it running about 8 or 9 months .. have the collection cup almost all the way down,(about 1 inch above skimmer) and it will pick up about a 1/4 inch of tea looking skimmate in one or two days time. Not very good.
