Skimmer in a Bucket?

Do you mean make a skimmer out of a bucket or put a skimmer in a bucket? For what size tank, what type of skimmer, etc?

I am curious also. I have ideas for you both probably any of the questions just need to know what your looking for ...

Mine has been done that way for more than 6 months. Works great per Anthony's thread above. There is no plumbing involved the way I did it. Drain from tank goes into bucket then leaves bucket through skimmer output or overflows around the edge. This concentrates the top layer of skimmed water from tank. No filter sock should be used.

If you wanted a psuedo-recirc skimmer you could put a hole in the bucket where you want the water level to be. Then just have the skimmer input and output in the bucket. Some water will be skimmed twice but overall it should remain efficient.

What do you think?

eshook--I did that on my 55g, with an Excalibur skimmer. Doing this along with adding a needle valve to the air line and a MJ 1200 pump I end up with a cup full dark skimmate a day. That is from a very lightly stocked tank. I didn't even have to put a hole in the bucket. Just went to the cooking section of wallmart with a tape measure to get a Tupperware tub the correct height and diameter.
This is where RC started saving me lots of money. I was told by the LFS that the Excalibur was the best skimmer around for $125.
I was able to recover from at least one of my early mistakes. That is the reason I became a premium member, I wanted to thank them for saving me a lot of money.
I guess that's enough of my late night rambling.
