Skimmer...In sump or?

I'm building a sump and I wanted to get some opinions. The skimmer is a Coralife 220. Should I put it in the sump or hang it on the sump? Are there any pros and cons to either?

Hanging on sump, doesn't take up space in sump, but if it leaks or overflows the cup, the water is everywhere.

In sump, generally alleviates the above problems, but takes up space in the sump. Not sure how much room you have to work with either in or out of the sump.

The sump is a 30g. I have the room to have it either in or out out of the sump. The skimmer has not leaked yet, and I use a jug for collection. I would like it out to gain as much water volume as possible and also add more rock.

Then I'd say to leave it out then and see if it works for your application. You can always change things later if it doesn't. I have altered several things from my original setup.
