Skimmer Issue

I have yet to get my skimmer working exactly how it should? I've tried cleaning out everything, shortening the tubing to the pump, etc...

Sometimes it works great and sometimes, just ok. It's pulling but it's running too wet. Tank is super clear but the collection cup fills up faster than it should

For instance, it was just working fine so I turned it off and then just put it back on but it was pushing the water through faster and more powerful. I just cleaned my collection cup out and I turned it off and put the lid back on and tried turning the dial all the way down. But, it has risen and is pushing very small bubbles that are VERY wet through and have already pushed through like 1/2 a cup in 10 minutes. But the dial is all the way down??? I can't turn it down anymore?

If you turn the knob too hard it will actually kind of start over if that makes sense. Like if you are at the lowest point and turn it a little harder it will go to heavy again and then you have to keep turning left again. Would this mess up the skimmer. I don't do that but I accidently did when I first got it.

What kind of skimmer is this? Can you put a gate valve on the output?

How do you have your return line positioned in the bubble diffuser box? Generally, the less you submerge it, the lower the water level in the skimmer. I set mine just on the edge of it and keep it totally out of the water.
