Skimmer mod?

Is it possible to buy and install the new impeller wheel from reef octopus on the original pump? Has anyone moded the old one with a bubble plate?

I'm modding a bubble plate to my red sea berlin classic.

You can get the new impeller for the older pumps so yes. Bubble plate, yes it can be done, but it is not easy to do and install in the skimmer.

I have recently purchased from another member. It is old model 110NW. From what i have been able to inspect, there seems tobe no way taking the skimmer apart to install the bubble plate. My machinist at work believs he can make the bubble plate proporly, but i dunno how to get it in. Anyone else?

That is one of the biggest problems with adding a bubble plate to an existing skimmer.. About the only thing you could do would be have your machinest cut the bottom off and then glue it back on when you are done.

That is possible i gues. Where can I buy the new impeller? And can one buy a new venturi? The plastic that holds the air tube in broke "Supposidly" during shipping...it had been super glued so i am doughting it happened during shipping.

Which pump do you have, or which model of skimmer?

On the venturi I would not replace it, I would mod it for a larger airline tube to allow more air since it is broken,

does there need to be an angle on the venturi hole? openinh the hole will not hurt anything? Octopus nw110 is the model.

There does not have to be an angle.

Did you find the new impeller?

I haven't found it for sale yet. I have seen it advertised on a couple sites, but can't find just the impeller. This skimmer is the first step of a major rebuild for my 75 AGA. I plan on using it for a sump once my monster is complete! But with layoffs pending that is on hold.
