i am tired of algae in my mantis tank and want to try a protein skimmer. its a 7 gallon mini bow. anyone using one or have a suggestion?

problem is i dont want the thing to stick out like a sore thumb

you might be able to fashion a DIY skimmer out of pvc. This would probably be only a countercurrent skimmer and it would take up a good amount of space in the tank. A DIY venturi skimmer might be darn near impossible on a system that small.

You could make a HOB box to sit a DIY protein skimmer in. That way it would hang off the back, and be somewhat hidden.

I've seen some people put prizm skimmers on tanks that size..it's a HOB like all my stuff...hehe.. find one on ebay maybe....

The reason I said that a venturi skimmer would be impossible is that the flow would be huge for a 7 gallon tank. But I could be totally wrong. Let mus know what you do and how well it works :)

I have a venturi on my 12 gallon bow, works well. I have found that due to the small volume of water, it's harder to gets a consistent foam, but it really helping compared to the old tank I had with just LR.
