skimmer out of control

I had a red slime problem which I figured out was from low flow and over feeding. At the advise from my lfs I was told to use chemi clean to get rid of it. I cleaned the rocks, did a partial water change, added lots more flow and cut back on feedings and used the chemi clean per instructions. it worked and the algae is gone. I did a 35% water change today and turned back on the uv sterilizer and added carbon and phosguard and when I plugged the protein skimmer back in it is going crazy. It is a euro reef rs180. I have the riser pipe all the way down and have removed the air valve so it gets maximum air but it continues to flow over the top. It has been going like this since about 3 today. Should I unplug it and let the carbon remove some of the junk and plug in again tomorrow or continue to let it foam over? Any ideas would be helpful.

I have used chem-clean and it did the same to my skimmer, just keep emptying the overflow and it will subside in a few days.....

put the air valve back on and dial it back until you are getting almost dry foam. it will prob be almost closed. thats what i have to do when i dose. It should be OK to give it some more air in a few hours....just keep opening the air valve until it is back where you normally run it. I wouldn't do what pooks suggested, i have had to add about 10 gals to my only 50 gal system the ont time that I "just let it go, it will calm down eventually" :)
