skimmer overflow after treatment

I treated a 180g tank with Melafix about a month ago and still the skimmer wont operate properly. It still overflows. I did two water changes of about 30g. I also cleaned the skimmer out. The only thing I can think of is to try to clean it with vinegar to break up any remaining chemical????? I doubt it wil work as I see some foam in the return side of the sump still indicating to me it is still within the system prior to the skimmer.

A little help would be appreciated.

How large are the water changes you are doing? You can also lower your salinity to around 28 ppt to try and alleviate some of the foam production, of course you would do this slowly. A 50% water change should do the trick.

yup forgot to mention I did carbon. My salinity is a little high at 1.025 as I normally keep it about .023. I did two changes at approx 20%.

I guess Ill try the salinity and maybe replace the carbon again.

I just went through the same exact thing your going through. I have a 90 gal tank and I used melafix too. I have a euroreef skimmer that I had just cleaned prior to using melafix. I used melafix as directed and performed a 25% water change when I was done and my skimmer went nuts too. It took me about 4 to 5 weeks to get my skimmer to stop overflowing. During the few weeks that I was going through this I ended up doing one 35% and two 25% water changes and using alot of carbon. Your not alone on this and good luck.
