Skimmer overflow

I came home to a skimmer that had completely gone crazy and was overflowing everywhere. Its a RLSS skimmer and has worked perfectly for almost a year and haven't messed with any settings after getting it dialed in. Then came home to a huge mess as its was overflowing everywhere and had the whole sump full of foam. No new changes to the tank either. Any ideas?

Any chance an airborne chemical may have been used in the room? Scented candle, lemon pledge, fabreze, etc?

I have a RLSS skimmer and the only time it overflows like that is when you forget to empty the cup and the cup overflows back into the sump causing the skimmer to go nuts because well now it has all that crap to pull out.


But there are things that make all skimmers over flow like using certain epoxy's, the use of water conditioners etc... Something may have got into your water causing the surface tension to change.. Your sump water level rose...

No chemicals or anything. The cup was about 2/3 full the day earlier but it could be possible that it picked up more stuff then normal and caused the overflow.
