skimmer performance...

hi,
bought a needlewheel skimmer modded to mess wheel. skimmer doesn't seem to get much waste to the collection cup. all seems to build up on the neck of the skimmer. is this the norm for a skimmer? if not how can i get that waste build-up into the collection cup? also... getting a little hair algae on the inside body of the skimmer. is this normal as well?

What kind of skimmer is it? Where do you have the water level inside the skimmer? How deep is the skimmer sitting in the sump? ( Water level outside the skimmer)

its a marine sources skimmer

water level is about an inch into neck of skimmer and its sitting beside my sump with a 1000LPH feed pump

sounds like you are skimming too dry...increase level till it reaches bottom of the cup...or add an inch to sump level...or decrease outflow to raise bubble column...

isit an internal or external skimmer? is the 1000lph feed pump the needle/meshwheel or is it just a feed pump for an external skimmer, and u have another pump on it.

feed pump for an external then the needlewheel/venturi pump is on the skimmer itself
