skimmer placement

i read everyoen talking about the footprint of the skimmer and placing it in the sump...i put mine next to the sump and have the pump running to teh skimmer and the output of the skimmer running to the resevoir in teh sump that is after all filtration...does taht make sense? is there a better way i need to set it all up to be more effective??

I think the key is to have the skimmer get the water right when it comes down from your tank, not later in the sump, to make sure it is good and "raw". Also, having a skimmer box or a first section with a baffle will keep the water level so it won't mess with your pump. I believe that the way you have it, with the skimmer outside and the pump inside, that water level fluctuations dont affect skimming performance that much. If that is true, your set up seems fine to me

yea water level doesnt fluctuate but the water going into the skimmer is the water that has already been through the bio balls and the filter media...its in teh same resevoir or water that pumps back into the tank...should i relocate the pump for the skimmer into the resevoir with th bio balls for it to be more effective
