While I've had tanks of various sizes over the years I've just recently upgraded to a 180g. I'm using a Coralife 220 super skimmer driven by a Mag3 and it creates tons of bubbles and gunk.
I've been working to dial the skimmer in and of course the major issue I always have run into is water level. Tonight I decided to try an experiment. I placed the skimmer on the outside of the wet/dry instead of inside. (
I've attached a picture )
It still seems to be working great with no issues. I have it sitting on a box to keep it level and all of it is sitting in a bucket in case there's overflow.
My question is... does anyone else do this? Are there any particular issues? Of course I understand that if by some odd thing the mixture gets messed up and the it overflows i have a mess on my hands but I like the idea of taking the water level ( does it work best at 7" or 9" or ??? ) out of the equation.
Any feedback / thoughts is appreciated.
