skimmer probs?

Hey guys

I just set up a 75 gallon reef tank and I dont know if my skimmer is working good or if i just dont have enough DOC's in the water for it to work yet. All I have in the tank is 1 clown, 1 strawberry pseudo, and 2 chromis (3 committed suicide by running into the overflow). There is alot of live rock in the tank and i have a few inches of sand in the bottom. The tank has been setup for about a week and the skimmer isnt collecting anything yet. I have a SeaClone skimmer w/ mj1200 and I know they arent the best but I had one before that was good for me (my tank was overgrown with coral). Algae is trying to rear its ugly face in my tank and I just want to make sure my skimmer may be busted or if it isnt broken in fully yet. Let me know and thanks for the help in advance. Also if any of you local guys have any powerheads/pumps that push 300gph+ for sale please let me know. I need one for my UV filter.

thanks,
Nate

I think someone in Columbus was selling a Mag 3 pretty cheap.

Did you wash the skimmer out? It takes a while for the oils inside the chamber to wash off. I ran mine in the tub for 24 hours before putting it in. It took several days before I could get anything but water out of it.

it seems like i cant even get water in the collection cup. I wonder if maybe my pump may be dumping out on me...

it is a venturi skimmer and there are bubbles but it seems to not be enough i think....its been a couple years since i had a reef tank and i am relearning a lot of this.

seaclones are notorious for not working very well you would need a large amount of doc for the skimmer to get anything, you can try another pump but from what i hear from ex seaclone users you may never be happy with it.
