Skimmer Question for all

Who here, if anyone, dumps their overflows directly into their skimmer.....direct piping I'm talking.....right into the skimmer body.........hard piping lol.......Let it begin!

you know how this started, right?

the VERY first skimmers were counter current (airstone) skimmers that operated with gravity feed, so people hooked their skimmers up to a T on their drains. This design remains the epitomy of skimmer efficiency to this very day.

Cut to the year 2012 and many new lessons learned:

I no longer feel the newer skimmer designs should be operated with water fed directly from the aquarium. Feed critters in your refugium with leftovers that spill down the drains BEFORE feeding that water to the skimmer.

I'm sure there is someone SOMEWHERE that still run a gravity fed CC airstone driven skimmer. I'd love to hear from them in this thread!

Now that you mention that Gary I remember seeing that when I first was looking at this hobby 5+ years ago......Odd .... maybe do one to the fuge and one to the skimmer....lol
Lets see where this goes!
