skimmer question

Hey why is it recommend by some, to raise your skimmer in the sump tank so that its like a couple of inches of the glass i guess, as i was thinking about putting mine on a egg crate and have it sit on that, but i would really like to know why its recommended.

Skimmers are designed to run at a specific depth to produce optimally. If your sump is the right depth for your skimmer don't worry about it
