skimmer question

I just went to empty my collection cup and my skimmer was overflowing into my sump! its been working fine for over a month and now it does this? i have a gate mode done to it and it doesn't matter if i turn it all the way to either side its over flowing the cup in a matter of seconds, what could be wrong?

Hi Jim,

A couple of things might be wrong. The air intake might be clogged with something. This will cause the skimmer to fill up very quickly(no bubbles). Also as the water level around the skimmer raises and lowers so will the water level in your skimmer.
If you can't keep the water level constant around your skimmer you will always be adjusting the gate value for the correct skimmer water/foam level.

Hey Jim,
Dave has nailed it. I'd be willing to bet it's the semi-clogged air intake. Same thing happened to me when I got my new euro reef about a year ago. The little valve seems to pull in moisture from around the sump. Add a little dust/salt/whatever and it hardens. The air intake is then limited causing more water to come in. let me know how it works out.

My guess would be something clogging the venturi or something happened in your tank. Spawning maybe? Something you added from Kevin's tank spit up?

i checked the venturi and its clear i took it out and rinsed it out just to be sure, the water in the section where the skimmer is stays the same i don't know what else it could be? ive been trying to dial it in for like 20 min. and still not getting any closer
