whats a good skimmer in the $100 price range? I am going to combine it with a 20 gal sump with mangroves and macro algae also a deep sand bed

Hard to say.... what size tank are you gonna use it on? and Hang on or not?

have you looked at the aqua-c models? you should be able to find one of their smaller skimmers for around $100.
