I am new to all of this i have a 45 gallon tank with 2 damsels, green sea serpant, sandsifting starfish, 2 hermit crabs, 3 snails. I have a Rena filstar 3 canister filter and a skilter 250 that is doing my skimming but not very well at all i hate that thing. Need to get a new skimmer but don't know what to get. i would like to have something for inline purposes but i don't know if that is possible or not. If someone would give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks:confused:

Do you have a sump? that can somewhat determine what type to get (or rather what type not to get). If not, then i STRONGLY recommend the aqua c remora HOB skimmer. I had that thing on my 55 and it was amazing.

If you've got a sump...i would still possibly consider getting the remora still lol. I just like it that much, and i "think" you can somehow get them in the sump.

Another option would be the coralife superskimmers. IMO the 65 model might be a bit small for a 45...i've got one on my 40 breeder w/about 8 gallons in the sump and to be honest its really not doin so great. I'm thinkin about getting my remora back from my brother and using it instead

Sump or no sump? I'm guessing no sump. I like the AquaC hang on back (HOB) skimmers and have one myself. For the cost and the ease of use, you can't go wrong in my opinion.

What exactly do you mean my inline? Like a HOB or in sump model. For a HOB, I have used CPR Bak Pak & Aqua C and liked them both. As far as in sump models, I really like the performancce of my Euro-Reef but I don't really have any others to compared that to.

There are many great skimmer out there. Aqua C, Euroreef, Deltec, ect....just research them. There are pros & cons to make & model. Get the biggest skimmer you can afford. It sounds like you don't have that big of a bio-load so your current skimmer might not have much to skim. Have fun & keep reefin'.

I am considering the CSS but are they easy to overflow? the problem is my budget i need something affordable for now til i finish school then comethe aquarium house. just as long as my wife says ok. But if there is something better than that in about the same price range let me know. I want something that doesn't overflow very easily. already had enough of that.
