Skimmer Setup Advice

Hi All,
I am setting up a 90 gallon with a 50 gallon sump system, total gallon around 135-140. What would be the Pros and Cons of using an ATB 1050A skimmer rated up to 530 gallon on this setup? Any inputs would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
Mark

A little overkill but you know that. My only concern would be if your bio load in the 90 would be enough to for the foam head in the skimmer to build high enough to push out in the cup. I had same issue when I had a light bio load in my system. What I did was run the skimmer on a 12 on 12 off schedule. I ran it at night. I have found skimmer size is not really based on tank size but bio load. Of course with a 90 you couldn't get to a 500 gallon bio load. And if you did I would feel very bad for the fish.

When it comes down to it it's simple. Test your system and if your water quality is too clean then adjust skim mate or how long it runs per day. If it stays too dirty then the skimmer isn't running properly.
