Skimmer setup question.

Does anyone have a weblink to digrams on how a external Skimmer should be set up? My old sump had it built in. I am going to buy a skimmer and am wanting to start figuring out the plumbing. I don't have tons of room in my sump/refugium for a internal. If it seems I can't make it work I might just get a h/o skimmer. Sorry for all the questions.

If it's a recirc design you just need a water inlet and outlet on the skimmer. A small pump would pump from your sump to your skimmer (inlet) and water out from your skimmer flows through any sort of plumbing (i.e. spa-flex, pvc, vinyl, etc). Just make your outlet larger than the inlet to prevent any back pressure.

forgot to mention - instead of a small pump from the sump to skimmer you could feed your skimmer with your overflow box. If you go this route install a ball or gate valve (preferably a gate valve) to regulate flow from overflow to skimmer. Of course you would also want to install a T with a line back to the sump to prevent back pressure in the overflow box. HTH
