Skimmer Suggestions for 90 Gallon

Well, I'm going to be getting a refugium soon, so when I get it, I'm probably going to upgrade the skimmer as well. Right now I have a pro clear aquatic systems skimmer rated for 150 gallons, but it doesn't work that well. Someone suggested a coralife super skimmer 125, but I think it's only rated for a 125 gallons. I plan on making the tank a mixed reef w/ mainly lps w/ a few sps and softies. The tank has been establisehed for 2 years and is lightly stocked right now.

I just bought the MSX200 for my ~100 gallon system. it has only been running for a few days, but I hear great things about them so i'm hoping it will be a good skimmer.
it was $279 shipped from marine solutions...

Thanks for the replies. I probably should of mentioned that I'm looking for an in-sump skimmer. As far as the budget I really don't want to go over $300. I'm not sure exactly how much space I'll have yet w/ the new fuge, but I don't think it will be a major issue. I'll take a look at the skimmers that have been suggested so far.

I'd also suggest the MSX160/200, they seem to be good bang for the buck skimmers and are in your price range.

+1 on the msx 200. My system in which it is for is not running yet, but I've read many articles and posts on them and only hear good things and am expecting the same. Can't wait to get the system running just to see the skimmer run in person. Plus its in your price range.

the msx 200 is only 10$ more then the 160
The 160 is a "space saver" design. Since the pump is located beneath the skimmer body it has a smaller footprint than the rest of the line.

The 160 or 200 is not really a performance decision IMO, rather an available space design. The both utilize 1 Sicce pump, and I doubt you'd see a HUGE increase in performance going to the 200 vs the 160... so that's why the prices are so close.

However, like everyone else suggested.

Marine Solutions MSX-160 or MSX-200

I have a 90g reef. And had a coralife on it.

Stay away from the. Coralife superskimmer unless u want to be adjusting it daily. I had one and honestly I hated it.

I changed the skimmer to an ASM G1X and I love it. When I upgrade to my 180 I am adding a second ASM... Probably a G3 or a G4.

The g1x will wet skim and the g3-4 will dry skim.

I have also heard great things of octopus skimmers but I have never owned one.

Good luck.

I did a lot of research when looking for a skimmer for my upcoming 90, and I landed on a Vertex IN-180. I was between the Octo Extreme and the Vertex, but liked the neck design better on the Vertex. Essentially its a Euro Reef RS with a bubble plate. They're still pretty new to the market, but the Gen 2's that were just released seem to fix the bugs of the Gen 1's had. Premium Aquatics were great in answering my questions before I ordered. People have been pulling some nasty crud with the Vertex line, and the price is really reasonable.

i recommend an octopus nw150. its rated for up to 180 gallons.

amazing skimmer. very moddable. and cheaper than the msx.

you can find used oct 150's for $100 pretty easily as well.

I'm running an ASM-G3 on my 90. The trick was to find a sump/fuge small enough to fit in my stand yet big enough to accommodate the big skimmer. I settled on the ADHI-45 for the sump/fuge.
