Skimmer Suggestions

Asking in the main Equipment forum, wanted to ask here too? I'm planning on upgrading to 75g early 2007. Need some skimmer recommendations, or brands to shy away from.

Softie Tank, Light Bioload, In Sump, but looking to 'over'skim.

After browsing marinedepot and ebay, there are ALOT of brands :eek1:

I love my Euroreef and recently had to replace the pump. Great service from the factory : )

Thanks dmbeared, Euroreef so far is my top choice. I was looking at the CSS (Good Price), but good reviews have always mentioned overflow problems. EuroReef is pricey, but I don't mind paying alot of $$$ if it's a great product.

I have a Remora HOB on my 37g, and I'm not that impressed with the whole Spray Injection thang to consider an EV.

i just got my euroreef rs80 and love it.i did add a gate valve to make it easier to adjust.that stupid piece of pipe they use to adjust the water level is kinda touchy.

Be careful about 'over' skimming your tank with softies. When I switched to all sps and upgraded my skimmer to a www.myreefcreations.com skimmer I saw a HUGE change in my softies. Eventually, the xenia, mushrooms etc all wasted away due to the low nutrient levels. If you are having success propagating softies with your current skimmer, I would suggest sticking with it.

mflamb, I was looking at the RS135 until I saw Grayout's post. So starting to investigate the RS80. With other responses I've received, I'm also looking into H&S Skimmers, and have the myreefcreations page bookmarked

Sure, no problem. While running a cheap skimmer on my old 65 gallon I had rediculous growth out of my xenia and shrooms. The xenia covered the entire back of the tank and I had to trim it back repeatedly.

I think, all things considered I would use the RS100 on your system. JMHO

Well think I've settled on the Euroreef thanks for the suggestions. H&S Internal was at the top of the list until I found they have some issues with the AquaBee pump.

Most of the other suggestions while great (mrc et al.), skim too good for my planned 75g.

Disappointed with the lack of choices on Ebay, most all I see are Jebo's. Do people actually by a skimmer for a 150g+ that's only $29.99????

I have a Euroreef on the 46 and an Aquamedic TurboFlotor on the 125. I like both. The Aquamedic requires more "tuning" but it has overall been a very good performer for my tank (LPS and softies, no SPS).

Yes, the size of the skimmer depends NOT on the size of the tank, but on the amount of the food added to the tank. So a small airstone style skimmer can work great on a soft coral tank with little or no fish.

Actually, I prefer harvesting the macro-algae from a lush refugium to the constant maintenance of protein skimmers.

You also might want to check out Euroreef's RC (recirc) series. I believe the Model number for you tank would be RC-80. They are a little pricier than the RS models but they come with the Recirc. mod and gate valve mod already installed. You can also run them externally if you have a smaller sump.
