im planning on getting a skimmer to help clean the tank as it has alot of algea and gunk built up. It is a 20 gal, and its in my bedroom, so it needs to be quite. And not to expensive. anyone have suggestions?

well, then you gotta look at the hang on types. auqua c remora's are supposed to be really good hang on skimmers. coralife needle wheels are cheaper, but work well too. skimmers are not quiet, unfortunately. but, you do get used to hearing it after a few nights.

My AquaC EV-180 is super quiet, so maybe the AquaC Remora is just as quiet. I don't have one though so I couldn't tell you, but I'm sure it uses the same principle for producing skimmate, the spray-inductor. The coralife SS are decent skimmers but mine produces tons of salt creep and it overflows onto the floor if you adjust it incorrectly.

I have a Aqua C Urchin. Its the same body model as the Remora but its the in sump model. I think its quite. Much more quite than a Seaclone.

I have a Remora hob skimmer. It's a fine skimmer for smaller tanks. The skimmer will help but you might not get the results you are looking for just by adding a skimmer. There is obviously an imbalance of water chemistry that is causing the algae blooms. Nitrates and phosphates would be the first place to look. Also, limiting nutrients in the water source will do wonders. RO/DI water is highly recommended. ;)

I have the smallest of the Coralife Super Skimmers the 65 and it is super quiet. It is not small though. It might look like the tower of terror on a 20 gallon. I would check out the Aqua C Remora, they are a lot smaller and you will be able to have the tank closer to the wall as it only needs about 3-4 inches of clearance. The Coralife needs about 5-6 inches of clearance.
