Skimmer testing

I just recieved a used skimmer that I purchaced here and just wanted to run some water through it to make sure everything worked. I filled one of my empty tanks with some H2O and started her up and the bubble output and bubble size is terrible BUT its being tested in fresh water. Is the production going to be completely different in a salt water setup? I dont have my tank setup yet so this was my only option. Thanks

Yep, it will be completely different in salt water.

Throw some vinegar in the water and it'll react a bit differently. I was actually able to get some foam out of fresh water by throwing in some vinegar to the water.

How much per gallon would you say would be a good ratio?

How much water is the skimmer running in? I'd put about a cup or so in 5 gallons.
