Skimmer Upgrade, suggestions please.

I am finally going to be put up a small fish room, and I will have room for a larger skimmer. I currently have a LifeReef Skimmer 24" version. I am figuring total water volume to be around 400gallons when all is said and done. What would be a good skimmer for this volume with a fairly heavy load on it? I don't have a preference as to whether it is in-sump or external.

Orca 200 would be a good fit and a 250 would give you room to grow should you ever need/want to.

I picked up a MRC MR-6R skimmer for my 900-1000g system. I would go with a MRC MR-4. If you dont like the Beckett style then my suggestions would be:

BK 300 as an internal skimmer

The Orca's are also really good.

If you dont like any of the Bec

I would go with an I-Tech Super Beast . I have one , and it is the best skimmer I have ever had . Customer service is second to none , as well .

You have 2 pumps on the superbeast? I think that is what I read. Why is that?

itech is nice. A great domestic choice.

I'd also give a hard look at ATB. ATB skimmers large enough to handle your system use less energy than the Itech superbeast.

I would have Geo build you a custom needlewheel/beckett hybrid Nothing going to beat that combo.

The super Beast has only 1 pump , a Dart Gold .

Sorry you do need a feed pump , just like the Reeflo 250 , but you can feed it off your return .

I never have to adjust my I-Tech . When I clean the cup , I just unplug the pumps , and remove the cup,to clean it . I then put the cup back on the skimmer , and plug in the pumps . I never have a problem when the power goes off , and comes back on . Other skimmers I had would some times over flow .
