skimmer water depth suggestions

i have a 29 gallon sump with a water depth of 15"; my skimmer (reef octopus nwb150) needs to be in 6-10 inches of water, any suggestions on how to jack it up that much? and secondly is it possible to rise the level of the gate vale or should i not mess with this? thank in advance

If you have the height above the sump then maybe a skimmer stand or DIY version. Not sure on the gate valve ?

ok thanks , by gate valve i mean the skimmer outlet can, can i raise that up. i know it will create more head pressure but its its going to mess up the skimmers function?

place it on some eggcrate sitting on some upside down clay pots maybes. The small pots you can buy at the local hardware store etc.

+1 on the eggcrate (light diffuser). Home depot sells them in sheets for fluorescent light fixtures. They are super easy to work with using only a simple pair of pliers and some zip ties.

My first question...Do you have enough head space in your stand to raise the skimmer that much while still being able to get your cup off?

A 29 gal is usually only 16" deep, total. Most people do not run their sumps anywhere near full. You have to ensure that if your return pump fails, or a powerfailure occurs, you have enough left over volume to accept the DT's extra water. I run with only 9" inches of water normally in my sump. On powerfail, it rises to 12-13".

An inch or two of eggcrate material under your skimmer is all you should ever really need for a 29g sump.

I had alot of tube worms and sponges under mine when I ran a 2" stand.

Your sump shouldn't be that full. Your sump should be able to support all the water that drains from the tank I'm case power fails.

CalisFinest: did you read karsseboom's and my post? You probably don't want to run the waterlevel in your sump that high. Make sure you do the powerfail test. After things are configured, cut power to your return pump and ensure your sump does not overflow.
