skimmer?

can a skimmer be used under the tank but still connected to the main tank and not a sump?

it looks like my only option is to drill the tank and fit a sump as i dont want it on the main tank.

You don't have to drill your tank to have a sump. Just buy an overflow...

dont like overflow boxes much ,bit bulky and can be a bit noisy.i need the tank as close to the wall as possible and if i drill i can get it down to 1 1/2" off the wall.

If your goal is to get that close to the wall you will have to get your tank drilled.
