Skimmer

I had to run mine for almost 4 weeks before it was broke in enough to make constant skimmate. I have 3 fish in a 55g so i consider mine to be under low bioload. I have mine running in hot mode (hang on tank). I found for me that pump closer to water surface and blocking air vent on output has worked well for me. Running on 8 months there are times when the skimmate isnt coming over the neck until enough builds up on the bubbles, like when you feed.

It's ok now. I think the reason it stopped was because I wiped off the funnel on the over flow. When it got the film back on it, it hasn't stopped bubbling yet

Yeah I block the vent on the return too and that helped tremendously. I also have an air pump hooked up to the Venturi and that helped out with bubbles getting into the tank. I virtually have no bubbles on the bottom of the main chamber.

How big is the tank and how is stocked? Maybe there isn't anything to skimif the bipolar isn't very bag after the water change.

I have the same skimmer for two years and counting. It works well.
I removed the cap covering the nipple at the bottom of the collecting cup, connected a hose to it that runs into a two gallon container. -Never had an overflow problem. . . Even though sometimes the skimmer produces nothing and sometimes just goes crazy spewing out gunk.
Be patient and let it do its thing.

Yeah it's been running good now. I wiped the funnel in the over flow and as soon as it caked back up it started making lots of skimmate
