skimmer

I understand the mechanics and the reasoning for a skimmer. But I am I doing a no-no for my reef environment/ fish included by using a current fission skimmer or should I upgrade to an octopus. Currently the 175 gal tank has the skimmer in the sump. All looks well, but I dont want to come in the next day and find a prob.


KH 7, PH 8, CA 360, PO4 .03, NO3 12.5

There are lots of people that run skimmerless, but I never would.
I would invest in a skimmer rated for twice the total volume, and once you see the gunk it pulls out. You will be glad you did.
fwiw I run an octopus recirculating 150 on my 90, and am very happy with it.
