If i use a octopus nw-150 skimmer (rated for 150 gallons) on my 20 gallon nano will it overskim the tank and cause the corals to not grow?

It is possible to overskim. You will pull out every nutrient in the tank

No the skimmer is fine I have a 180 some thing for a 200 gallon aquarium in my 20 gallon aquarium's sump. A protein skimmer airerates the aquarium and with that size of a aquarium with that size of skimmer you'll only have to change water once a month.
