Skimmers and Algae

My skimmage is mostly green, dark green.

I am thinking that the vast majority of my skimmage is free floating algae particles.

What about you? I have seen people with brown skimmage but not me.

Since my skimmage is most green, I am wondering if I could go without a skimmer and just a good refugium with lots of macro algae and see if I can get copepods to grow. Maybe get some algae filtering corals.

That is very interesting. I am now wondering if I should just run the skimmer but without the collection cup and use the skimmer as an oxygenating component.

When my tank gets more established and things settle down more. I might just try that.
