Skimmers = Pod Killers?

I've seen larger pods in my skimmate fighting for life. I'm assuming the smaller variety are getting bubbled up too. Is this a fair assesment? Also, how efficient are most skimmers at killing pods?

My mandarin isn't overly happy about this.

Thanks, Cheers.

Where do you have your skimmer at and sure this happens. Thats one of the only negatives about skimmers imo.

The skimmer is in my "fuge/sump" nestled up against a big ball of chaeto. Pretty much right in pod-central.

I have a remote 'fuge that gravity feeds into my display tank. My goal is to sustain a huge amount of 'pods without the fear of them being killed by pumps, skimmer, etc. A skimmer will remove the occasional pod or two, but unless they are in very short supply, I don't see why a skimmer killing a few pods would outweigh its benefits to a tank. If you are seriously worried for your pods, then I would look at encouraging them to multiply in the tank in large numbers, perhaps with a pile of live rock rubble in an area of low flow seeded with some pods and an occasional pinch of food to keep them happy and multiplying.

Ay yes, with your skimmer there it will definately get some pods. I have my skimmer far away from my fuge so i'm sure i have a few here and there but if it was close to my fuge i'm sure this would happen alot more. My return pump is close to my fuge to blast the little guys up into my display tank. The problem with skimming is that there riding bubbles up to there death instead of riding the wave to the display.
