The tunze does blow it away. It's rated for a 132 gallons while the remora is rated for up to 75 but the tunze is over $100 more in price. The remora would more than do its job on a 40 reef.
Remora Pro is what I used to have on a 29g with 20g sump. They are pretty loud IMO. I don't have experience with the tunze to compare the two. I know there are a few people that are satisfied with Coralife Super Skimmers even though the skimmers are looked down upon by many reefers.
I think there is an octopus HOB skimmer that does a good hob but I don't know the model number off hand.
Don't know if he sold it...But Dan at Salty had a remora in his used table forsale; pump and all and ready to roll. I'd call him and ask and check if it's what you are looking for before you make the drive.
I've used the AquaC Remora (w/Maxi 1200) on my 55 for about 8 months. It has served it's purpose, & isn't exactly loud IMO, just not as quiet as others.
I'm buying a Coralife Super Skimmer 65 for the 40breeder. Everyone I have talked to loved it, but not for HOB, apparently that's where most of the grief with it lies.
I have used a berlin skimmer for years, it was originally a HOT model but it kept overflowing at the collection cup. It is a great skimmer but just not in a location above carpeting. I moved it inside my sump and have been happy with it ever since.
