Ok, I found some Formalin! I found 10% neutral buffered Formalin. Seeing as Orchid #1 is dead already (as described above), Orchid #2 is currently halfway through a 45 minute bath and looking ok so far. Orchid #3 is nervously waiting his turn!
Since 37% Formalin is usually used for fishy purposes, it is suggested to use 1 mL per 1 gallon of tank water for a 45 minute dip. This has worked well for me in the past. So I figure, 10% Formalin I need to use 3.7 times the amount of Formalin (37/10=3.7). So that is really close to 1 mL per liter, so that's what I went with. I am using 0.5 mL in 500 mL of tank water.
Fingers crossed...
Now, I'm not totally sure it is Brookynella. It may be a close relative? I'm not sure. However, I do know that broad spectrum antibiotics didn't do a thing when used orally (most effective) for a week, so my next step is Formalin. It's been 6 or 8 years since I've used it (it's nasty stuff!), so I take the use very seriously. It is a last ditch effort to save the fish.
I will update tomorrow.
