Hi fellow SLASH'ers;) We are wanting to ask our members what some good HELP items would be to revitalize the program. For those that don't know what HELP is, it's the helpful equipment loaner program for active SLASH members. Throw out your ideas of what you'd like to see available.

Fish traps are handy, I own 2 now and this is something we could make for fun if we wanted. I’d be willing to offer up my shop to have a build night instead of a pizza night. Easily build a few in an evening. I buy acrylic scraps from a fabricator in Champaign IL and could pick additional pieces up next month when I’m there.

Do we still have the gryphon saw we bought years ago? Not sure how successful it was as I got out before using it.

I need to borrow a par meter but we already have one of those.

Things to help move heavy tanks like the suction cups we have and shoulder harness for lifting.

Salinity calibration fluid, maybe have it at the swap and anyone can bring their refractometer in to have it calibrated.

I could donate a digital Pinpoint salinity reader if that would work.

ThaNks,, Mark. We are looking to buy new equipment for active members to loan out as needed.

I'm not sure what would all go into it but have some emergency equipment to keep a tank from crashing would be awesome.

Generic return pump
Heaters
Salt for emergency water changes
Air pumps
Gas generator
150g stock tubs

You would have to come up with some time restrictions to keep people from using it long term and a buyback program for the salt and things that you can only use once. If it's done right, the club can respond when a reefer has an emergency issue before they lose too much livestock.

Great ideas. Storing the stock tank would be challenging with my space being limited.

All cool and good until someone has to store it, clean it, maintain it, be available 24/7 to distribute it. A storage locker would be nice but that is another expense for the club.

I do like this idea but agree it only works on paper. This is a great example of when people who make an effort to be social and meet in person get that personal benefit of perks like this. I do not do what i preach so i am guilty of this but if people take the time to show up for pizza parties, get some contact numbers, then emergencies are easier to deal with since you built that support network. (some would say im talking more than just the reefing hobby)

Maybe instead of a storage locker, we can do an excel spread sheet where we list the extra equipment we are willing to loan out. If people feel really generous provide a phone number so if emergencies happen they can call/text. I know i would add my self to the list, Happy to hand out tubs, buckets, heaters, pumps...ect
