Hi all :) So Ive moved and looking stable. Ive decided to treat myself to a new fish for my birthday.

Decided on a coral beauty... Set up the QT and called phishys... and one of the first things he said over the phone was

'these fishes can be pretty aggressive'

I know some of you have pairs of clowns with drawf angels. what are your experiences? Esp. those of you that added the angel after the clowns (maroons btw)

Bad idea?? second choice might be a yellow hog fish. very cool. need to do more research tho.

have one on hold till wednesday, want to make the right desicion.

thanks for your help :)

Maggie, I've got a pair of GSMs with a coral beauty. I had the female clown first then added the coral beauty and then the male clown. The coral beauty is definitely the boss of the tank (it's a 42 hex), except at feeding time when the female gets first dibs. Otherwise the clowns don't venture more than about 6" away from their RBTA.

I say go for it. Be careful though, any centropyge can be a polyp nipper. I haven't had problems with mine though. He leave the LPS and the clams alone. Luck of the draw I suppose.

Good luck.

Garrett.

My coral beauty won't leave the clowns alone. He constantly harrasses them and swims up to the nests constantly. I wouldn't have added him if I had done more research. That being said, the coral beauty constantly looks pretty beaten up so I know the clown is getting her licks in but the aggression just won't stop.

However; the clowns keep laying so I guess they aren't too angry.

wow. ok. I want my maroon to be the most dominant. def dont want her getting picked on.

any suggestions on a new docile fish? It has to fit in a 45 gallon and Id like it to be a 'swimmer'

My Coral Beauty is very docile and never bothers my percs. For a 45G though you might consider the very small Pigmy Angel. It's a very pretty little fish, swims constantly- also a good community fish.

you don't have to worry about this. No fish, especially no small angle will be able to beat up a mature female Maroon. You got to worry about the other way around. Maroon can beat up and kill another fish by feed him to her anemone.

Consider a Cherub angle or a Atlantic flame back. Both are great reef fish, and beautifull.

I've kept a coral beauty w/ a pair of perc clowns in a 46gal for several years and they never bothered each other. I should also add that my female perc was the boss of the tank.

oi. I ended up getting a sailfin tang. I really donno what i was thinkin. but now im looking for a bigger tank lol i kinda wish i woulda just tried the angel. both spicies are just beautiful. but of course im already dealing with ick. (in a qt thank goodness) its a great fish. a lil shy. but its gonna cost me a fourtune to keep it.
